🌿 My Journey with Ayurvedic Yoga Massage
My path with Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) began a few years ago, during a time when I was exploring different bodywork therapies for my own healing and wellbeing.
Over the years, I’d experienced many types of massage—but nothing resonated with me the way AYM did. From the very first session, I felt something shift. This practice offered more than just physical relief; it created space for deep mental and emotional release as well.
✨ A Transformative Experience
For me, AYM has been truly transformative—not just for the body, but for the whole being. It’s a practice that nurtures both stillness and movement, awareness and surrender. The combination of breathwork, assisted stretching, and deep-tissue massage felt like coming home to my body in a new way.

My journey into becoming a practitioner began with the incredible Despina Psarra, whose teaching lit a spark in me. Her knowledge, intuition, and passion for AYM opened a door I couldn’t close. From that point on, I was hooked—and the rest, as they say, is history.

Purple Sands Massage is located within a welcoming wellness centre in South Shields, Tyne and Wear.
This calming, supportive, safe space is designed to help you fully relax and receive the many benefits of Ayurvedic Yoga Massage—from deep-tissue release to yoga-inspired stretching and breath-led healing.
Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning for ongoing support, Purple Sands offers a peaceful environment where you can reconnect with your body, breath, and self.
Our Approach
Each AYM session at Purple Sands Massage is tailored to individual needs, ranging from dynamic to soothing. By combining oil massage and movement, we aim to release physical and emotional blockages, improve posture, boost energy, and promote overall well-being.
We use Acorus Calamus powder (a traditional Ayurvedic herb) to stimulate blood circulation and skin during the massage, enhancing the benefits of the treatment. Regular sessions are recommended, with no longer than 4 to 6 weeks between treatments, to support the positive effects of AYM.
